The Katahdin Region has experienced a significant transformation over the past several decades, with the closure of two paper mills and loss of other employers. Our goal is to encourage the shift from extractive uses of the land and waters to regenerative community and economic development.

2024 Available Funding: up to $195,000

Focus Area Lead: Tom Boutureira, Community Partner

Priorities

We seek to strengthen collaboration, build capacity, deepen equity, increase shared prosperity, and center the voices of those who live and work in the region, including Wabanaki people, by supporting:

  • Organizational Capacity: human capacity and financial resources

  • Transformative Initiatives: projects that align with the Katahdin Gazetteer, have regional impact, and a high-level of readiness to implement in the next 3 years (2022-2024).

  • Collaboration: follow through on meetings, plans, and shared priorities, as well as stakeholder communication.

  • Healing and Racial Equity: applied racial equity learning for staff, organizations, and collaborations/partnerships

  • Evaluation: developmental evaluation to drive meaningful change and measure impact

  • Convening & Capacity-Building: gatherings for shared learning, skill and capacity development across organizations, or emergent discussions

2024 Grantmaking

Because of the limited funding available this year, our grantmaking will be by invitation only. We will either invite new applications (for new work or for organizations that aren’t current grantees) or make amendments to existing grants. If you have work that you would like to have considered for invitation, please contact Tom Boutureira to discuss.
